Final NaNo Update & The Nutcracker on Ice

Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 10.14.20 PMSo I did win NaNoWriMo!! Which is great, but I didn’t post about it on here, which isn’t so great. However, I have a really good excuse, wanna see?

No? Well to bad, you’re not getting a choice.

I’ve been in the Nutcracker on Ice and it’s almost finals week, so I’ve been very busy.

There have been some downsides of course, but over all it’s been a blast. There are still two more shows tomorrow (there was one Tuesday, one Wednesday, one Thursday, and one today (Friday). Not to mention a “dress warm rehearsal on Monday.”

Do you see why I like the Nutcracker so much? It means a lot to me, which is why I’m writing it how I think it should happen.

So soon we’ll be back to our regular programing, WRITING!

Nightly NaNo Update: Day 21

Screen Shot 2015-11-22 at 12.09.04 AM.pngRecent Blog Posts: On TheWritingCrafter:  Review of the book Uprooted by Naomi Novik, an announcement about my bookclub (please join!), and a NaNo Help post about writing backstory. On my craft blog, CraftingOnPinsAndNeedles I posted about my Cheshire Cat tail I made for my car’s rearview mirror, so check that out! Oh, and if you like my writing and my posts, consider becoming a Patreon.

I’ve been falling behind in my blogging, but, thankfully, not too terribly in my writing. I’m still technically ahead, but not as far ahead as I would like to be. Maybe tomorrow I will finally hit 40,000 (I hit 38000 and literally stopped in the middle of a sentence today!) and I would like to get a lot of writing done tomorrow, but since I have homework for both English and Personal Finance I doubt that will happen.

Back to the Beginning

You’ve written, and written and written, and now you can’t. So what do you do next?

My favorite is to roll back, to start fresh and write a prologue. Now, some people will tell you to never have a prologue in your writing, are they correct? I don’t know. However, keep in mind that not everything you write will make it into your book, it’s totally okay to write things that don’t go into your finished manuscript. This is something to help you get to know your characters, and their back story. Write thousands of words of backstory if it helps. Even if it doesn’t make it into your finished work, there’s no reason not to write it. If you’re one of those people who insist that you have to use it, if you’re going to write it, you can provide it free on your blog, as a teaser for people to read your book, or as an extra treat for people who read your book then hunt down your blog.

Nightly NaNo Update: Day 17

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 10.46.51 PM.pngI’m doing really well. Freakishly well. I’m scaring myself (and my friend who says, ‘you’re not human.’)

A forewarning to my twitter followers; this will be continuing for a few days because A.G. Howard, one of my favorite authors, is doing a book giveaway. (not to mention the book comes with the uber adorable Cheshire Cat tail keyring!)

Today’s been an eventful day, and I haven’t even gotten to the writing part yet. Can I hold your attention for one moment longer to tell you a wonderful thing that happened to me today? No? Too bad, I’m in charge here. On my post about the Chemo Cap, I mentioned that our server tried to buy dinner for my father and I:

We went to a restaurant for dinner, and because of the Chemo he can’t eat much. So our server found out he was a chemo patient, and when my dad asked for the check she said there wasn’t going to be one. We were (understandably) confused, and she said she was going to cover it. My father and i started crying (I’m crying now while typing this), and even though we didn’t let her cover the bill (my father told her to donate the total to a charity) it still meant the world to us. Thank you, whomever you are.

I’ve beaten the week two struggles, and I’m coming out on top.

Nightly NaNo Update: Day 13

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, or perhaps not turned on your TV, there was a terrible attack in Paris, the last death toll I heard was over 140 in the deadliest day in Paris since World War Two. France is was placed in a state of emergency and the borders are closed.

Facebook: If you have friends in Paris, use this on Facebook to find out if they are safe (if you are in Paris, please mark your condition.)

Twitter: Here are the Parisian Embassies. #StrandedInUS is for French people who are stranded in the US and need help. Americans in Paris who need help can search the #PORTEOUVERTE.

Screen Shot 2015-11-13 at 10.55.20 PMNow, onto writing:

I didn’t get much done today, I was almost too in shock to do much, and I was getting information about the attacks to share. Then I knitted an entire hat, a Chemo Cap for my father because I’ll be seeing him on Sunday. I also started reading a new book, Before Midnight, a retelling of Cinderella (my guilty pleasure). I also spent time entering several Goodreads Giveaways.

So not much writing happened, but I may write more after I publish this, but it’s so late I’ll just count it for tomorrow’s word count goal.

Book Club: I’ve been planning to do this for a while, so here; The Writing Crafter’s Book Club!! I’ll start it in December, and before I do I’ll post a thing explaining it better, however, if you’d like a say on our first book enter the poll below (It should allow write in votes, but I grabbed some winter-themed novels from my own TBR)

I’ll thrown in some cheerful things, because of how depressing this post was.
